Time for a new sports update for 2021. The Coronavirus covid had a big impact on sports. Lots of games were cancelled, seasons were shortened, and fans could not attend games. it was weird at times watching games on TV at empty stadiums and arenas. But things are better now, and fans are back to watch games live but in reduced capaciities.
The Washington Nationals won the World Series in 2019, but had a bad 2020 season shortened to 60 games because of the covid virus. Nats have lost a few players but have most of the same team back for 2021, plus a few good additions. They still have not found a third basemen. They have a sensational Juan Soto coming off winning the NL batting title in 2020. The Nats signed Jon Lester to go with starters Steven Strasburg, Pat Corbin and Max Scherzer. They have also added arms to the bullpen, inclding Brian Hand.
The Washington Redskins football team finally have a good head coach in Ron Rivera. The Redskins have a good defense and some very good receivers on offence, but need a quarterback. The team should make the playoffs again this Fall. They have a several good young players, but need more on offense. The Washington Wizards traded John Walls for Wes Westbrook which has helped the team a lot. They are playing great and should make the playoffs this year.
The Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2019(yes!!! finally!!), and are really good(again) this season, and should be in the playoffs again. Hopefully they get on a run during the playoffs like 2019 and win another Stanley Cup. Alex Oventchin had another great season and keeps getting better with age.
In college sports, the Maryland Terps football team had a bad and losing season with their head coach Mike Locksley. They had a good recruiting season again this year, but need to show improvement or won't keep recruiting good. The Maryland Terps basketball team got off to a great start last season and made the NCAA playoffs but lost in the second round. This year the Terps were ranked in top 20 pre-season, and they should make the playoffs this year.
The Maryland Terps baseball team was a disappointment last season and did not make the College World Series playoffs. But, they have a good young coach and had a great recruiting class(#15 nationally) this year., and they are playing great this Spring. As usual, the Maryland Terps have good teams in both women and men in the minor sports of Lacrosse, soccer and Field Hockey.
